surface dressing

We provide, install and repair surface dressing in London, Kent, Essex, Surrey, Sussex and throughout the South East and nationwide.

Surface Dressing, also referred to as tar and chip, is a very cost effective way of improving the properties of a surface in many ways, including the skid resistance and the aesthetics. Surface dressing can be used for a number of applications, these include; footways, pathways and driveways.

The process of surface dressing entails applying a bituminous emulsion (K170/VLS) over a hard surface, to which aggregate is then broadcast over, the aggregate is then mechanically pressed into the bitumen by a vibrating roller; any excess stone is then swept, leaving the surface ready for use. By applying the bitumen emulsion, the surface is effectively sealed and therefore will not allow water to pass through, preventing surface deteriorating due to water ingress.

Surface dressing is also used to enhance the aesthetics of a surface as a large variety of aggregates can be used, golden gravel being a very popular aggregate choice for this surface option.

As with our other services, TJ Surfacing carry out reinstatement to damaged surface dressed areas in addition to installing new surface dressings.
